Orange Order resolution demands restoration of full British rights in Northern Ireland
The Orange Order passed a resolution at its Twelfth demonstration in Maguiresbridge calling on the UK Government to restore what it describes as full British rights for Northern Ireland citizens. The text states that equality of citizenship within the United Kingdom is a right, not a concession to be negotiated.
The resolution also asserts that Northern Ireland's interests are best served as an integral part of the United Kingdom, but warns that the Union has been damaged. It highlights unsatisfactory post-Brexit trading arrangements between Great Britain and Northern Ireland and claims that unresolved issues have undermined confidence in the Union's ability to deliver equal treatment and stable governance.
Two other resolutions were adopted at the demonstration. A faith resolution urged trust in the unchanging God and marked the 500th anniversary of William Tyndale's first complete printing of the New Testament in English. A loyalty resolution affirmed allegiance to King Charles III and gave thanks for victories that ended absolute monarchy and helped establish principles of civil and religious liberty.
Ven Archdeacon Roderic West preached a sermon reflecting on loyalty to monarch and nation. He challenged those present to consider whether their highest allegiance lies with a flag or with Jesus Christ, and stressed the importance of a personal relationship with Jesus rather than merely knowing about him.
