West Belfast Councillor Calls for Action on Scrambler Bikes in Parks
Up to ten scrambler bikes entered Falls Park in West Belfast on Tuesday night. Riders tore up green spaces and posed risks to park users. The bikes approached at speed along the Falls Road beforehand.
SDLP councillor Paul Doherty stated that parks serve families, walkers, and young people and must not turn into racetracks. He called the activity unacceptable.
Doherty continues to advocate for a dedicated site in Belfast for safe and legal scrambler use. Such a facility would keep the bikes out of communities and cut down on risks.
He met with the Department of Justice on the matter. The department had backed a prior programme via the Motorcycle Action Project.
Doherty stressed that partnerships among agencies hold the key to effective solutions.
