Two people have been charged after an attempted ATM theft in south Belfast. Police said damage was caused to the machine but nothing was taken.

Officers received a report shortly after 4am on Monday, July 13, of an attempt to break into an ATM on the Upper Lisburn Road in Finaghy.

A 51-year-old man and a 42-year-old woman were arrested and later charged with attempted burglary with intent to steal, going equipped for burglary, and drugs offences.

The man appeared before Belfast Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, July 14. The woman is due to appear on August 10.

A review of the charges by the Public Prosecution Service is standard procedure.
