A multi-play unit at Drains Bay play park in Larne was closed on safety grounds after vandals damaged equipment and left broken glass and cans strewn around the site.

Mid and East Antrim Borough Council said the incident occurred on Wednesday evening, July 8. Council workers removed the broken glass and are sourcing replacement parts to allow the unit to reopen.

The matter has been reported to the Police Service of Northern Ireland, the council confirmed. A spokesperson said anti-social behaviour in local play parks imposes a cost on the whole community and poses a danger to children.

The council appealed for the public’s help in protecting the facilities, describing the closed unit as a safe play space that younger residents should be able to enjoy.
