Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon Council has closed the children's play park in Taghnevan, Lurgan, due to repeated vandalism. The closure will continue until anti-social behaviour at the site improves.

A council spokesperson stated that the park has faced ongoing vandalism for several months. This includes repeated graffiti and damage to play equipment. The council is working with statutory partners to tackle the issue.

Councillor Mary O’Dowd contacted the council after residents raised concerns about the closure. She described the park as an important space for families and young people in the community.

O’Dowd called for the matter to be prioritised so the park can be made safe and reopened quickly. She noted local residents offering to help clean and restore the area.

The councillor urged those responsible for the anti-social behaviour, including graffiti, to stop. She emphasised that everyone should help maintain shared community spaces.

The council plans to remove remaining graffiti and reopen the park once conditions improve. It encouraged parents to discuss respect for public amenities with their children.
