Police in Ballymena arrested a man in his 40s on Saturday night following reports he was attempting to enter vehicles in the Trostan Avenue area.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland confirmed officers responded to the incident shortly after 9pm on July 4. Witnesses had reported suspicious activity involving the man and vehicles in the residential neighbourhood.

A PSNI spokesperson said the man was detained on suspicion of offences including interference with vehicles. He was arrested at the scene and remained in custody while enquiries continued.

The offence of interference with vehicles covers attempts to enter or tamper with a vehicle without lawful authority or reasonable excuse.

Police have not disclosed whether any vehicles were successfully entered or damaged, and no further details have been released about the circumstances.

Residents in Trostan Avenue reported a significant police presence at the time, with multiple police vehicles attending the area. The arrest is expected to reassure the local community following concerns about vehicle-related crime.
