Three Arrested in Connection with Ballymena Distraction Burglaries
Police in Northern Ireland arrested three males on suspicion of burglary linked to suspicious activity in Ballymena. The incidents occurred in the Brooke Park area on the afternoon of Monday, March 23. Officers received a report around 4pm of men arriving at a home to offer cleaning services.
In one case, the men charged the householder cash but did not perform the work. One male took additional cash from the property before leaving. In a second incident nearby, a man entered another home claiming prior driveway cleaning and took money from the householder's purse.
Tactical Support Group officers from Maydown arrested a 17-year-old male and a 28-year-old man in the Victoria Road area on Wednesday night, March 25. Both remain in custody. Local Response Team officers arrested a 19-year-old man in Derry/Londonderry on March 24; he was released on bail for further inquiries.
Detective Inspector Gallagher stated the situation escalated quickly after the initial offer. Police enquiries continue. They appealed for information from anyone who saw suspicious activity in Brooke Park that Monday afternoon.
Officers urged residents to report unsolicited offers of maintenance work, such as driveway cleaning or roof repairs. A PSNI spokesperson advised trusting instincts about unexpected callers, denying home entry, avoiding advance payments, and contacting police on 101 with reference 1362 of 23/03/26. Anonymous tips can go to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
