Energy Regulator Proposes £57.6m Allowance for SSE Airtricity Gas Supply Price Control
The Utility Regulator has published its draft determination for SSE Airtricity Gas Supply (NI) Ltd’s next price control, covering the four-year period from April 2027 to March 2031.
The regulator is proposing that the company receive an operating cost allowance of £57.6 million over the period, with a profit margin set at 2% of turnover. These allowances will be recovered through regulated gas tariffs.
The proposed charges make up about 10% of a typical domestic customer’s annual bill, based on the tariff rate effective 1 April 2026.
The purpose of the price control, referred to as SPC27, is to establish an efficient revenue level while ensuring customers receive a quality service at a reasonable cost. The draft follows consultations on the control’s approach published in July and November 2025.
The current consultation on the draft determination is open until 5pm on 28 August 2026. After reviewing responses, the regulator expects to issue a final determination and begin a four-week consultation on licence modifications in October 2026.
