SSE Airtricity Gas Cuts Regulated Tariffs by 8.1% in Northern Ireland
SSE Airtricity Gas will lower its regulated gas tariffs by 8.1% for domestic and small business customers in the Greater Belfast and West gas networks. The reduction takes effect on 1 April 2026 and affects about 215,000 customers.
A typical credit meter household will see its yearly bill drop by around £80. Prepayment meter users can expect savings of roughly £79 per year.
This follows an 8.47% tariff cut implemented in October 2025. Northern Ireland's gas market operates under regulation by the Utility Regulator to pass on wholesale price changes to consumers.
Raymond Gormley, Head of Energy Policy at the Consumer Council, noted that the decrease signals a gradual decline in wholesale gas prices amid ongoing market volatility from global factors. The Consumer Council collaborates with the Utility Regulator and suppliers to ensure prompt pass-through of cost reductions.
Gormley advised customers facing payment difficulties to reach out to their supplier for assistance. The Consumer Council offers guidance on energy efficiency and lists support organisations for those managing high costs.
