Derry man sentenced for stealing over £500 in goods from mother
A 36-year-old Derry man has been sentenced at the city's magistrates court after stealing items valued at more than £500 from his mother.
Sean Francis Morrison, of Great James Street, admitted taking a television, a telephone and food items on 19 September 2025. He also pleaded guilty to damaging a police vehicle on 20 February 2026.
District Judge Suzanne Rice heard that Morrison kicked the police vehicle, causing damage to a unit fitted to it.
Passing sentence, Judge Rice described Morrison's mother as a very vulnerable person and said the theft had caused her significant distress. Morrison was sentenced to two months in prison, suspended for 12 months, and was ordered to pay £500 in compensation.
Judge Rice warned him to regard the suspended term as a caution for his future conduct.
