A Derry woman has been sentenced to four months in prison for a series of thefts, including taking watches from the flat of a man who was later found dead.

Louise Nixon, 40, of Cornshell Fields, admitted four thefts that took place in 2024, 2025, and this year. The court heard that on October 25, 2024, police were called to a report of two males in a flat. One man was found unresponsive and CPR was unsuccessful.

A number of watches were reported missing from the flat. CCTV footage showed Nixon leaving the property carrying a black box believed to contain the watches. It was not established whether she took the items before or after the man's death.

Nixon also admitted stealing items from a pharmacy on September 12, 2025. On August 29 of this year, she took four items valued at £128 from a store. The following day, she was disorderly at Altnagelvin Hospital, shouting and swearing.

District Judge Barney McElholm imposed a four-month custodial sentence at Derry Magistrates' Court.
