A driver has been charged with drink driving after police intercepted a vehicle in Aughnacloy, County Tyrone.

Road policing officers from Omagh and Enniskillen were on proactive patrol in Moore Street when they deployed pre-emptive tactics to stop the car without a pursuit.

The vehicle had significant front end damage from a suspected earlier collision. No injuries were reported.

The driver later provided an evidential breath reading that was twice the legal drink drive limit. They have been charged and will appear in court.

The stop was part of Operation Lifesaver, a campaign targeting the Fatal Five offences that contribute to road deaths.
