Drink-Driving Arrests Surge in Fermanagh and Omagh District
Police in Northern Ireland recorded more than 200 drink-driving arrests in the Fermanagh and Omagh district over the past year. The figures show a 123 percent rise from 13 arrests in December 2025 to 29 in January 2026, the largest increase among all policing districts.
The upward trend persisted into 2026. Nine arrests occurred in Fermanagh during the first week of February, one involving a driver four times over the legal alcohol limit.
Cllr O’Reilly, chair of the Fermanagh and Omagh Policing and Community Safety Partnership, stated that no safe limit exists for drinking and driving. He emphasized that risks carry serious consequences and called for a clear message against the practice.
Cllr O’Reilly urged personal responsibility and advised passengers to exit vehicles if the driver has consumed alcohol.
