Deadline Extended for NI Just Transition Commission Posts
The Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs has extended the application deadline for the chair and 15 members of the new Just Transition Commission. Applications will now close at noon on Thursday 9 July 2026.
The commission was established under Northern Ireland’s Climate Change Act and will have a statutory duty to oversee the implementation of the act’s just transition provisions. It is also mandated to provide independent advice to government departments on climate-related policy.
DAERA Minister Andrew Muir stated that the creation of the commission marks a significant step in Northern Ireland’s climate action. He noted the body’s role in cutting emissions while supporting livelihoods and communities.
The commission will include representatives from 12 specified sectors: academia, agriculture, the built environment, civic society, energy, environmental groups, fisheries, green finance, the rural sector, trade unions, transport and youth groups.
The department is seeking candidates with relevant experience and insight who can collaborate with stakeholders and communities. Minister Muir encouraged those with commitment and representational ability to apply.
Application details are available on the nidirect website. Completed forms must be submitted by the extended deadline.
