Two Arrested After Vehicle Theft and Crash Near Lisburn
Two men were arrested after a stolen van crashed in Aghalee, County Antrim, following a series of incidents on Friday night.
A Hyundai Tucson struck a tree on the Lower Ballinderry Road near Lisburn at around 9pm. Two men exited the vehicle and approached another car, where the driver was asked for a lift. During this exchange, one man tried to open the boot and the other attempted the driver’s door, but both efforts failed.
The pair then stopped a Vauxhall Vivaro van, grabbed its keys and pulled the driver and passenger from the vehicle. They drove the van away.
Officers later found the Vivaro crashed into a wall in Aghalee. Both men were injured at the scene and were subsequently arrested.
A Police Service of Northern Ireland spokesperson confirmed the incident involved aggravated vehicle taking and an attempted hijacking. Enquiries continue, and officers are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward.
