Police arrested a man in Warrenpoint on Tuesday after a van reported stolen from a Banbridge property crashed into a wall in the Oak Grange area.

The incident began when officers received a report of a burglary at a house on Dublin Road in Banbridge shortly before 9am. A window at the rear of the property had been smashed, and a van along with several sets of vehicle keys were taken.

Officers from the Banbridge, Armagh and Newry policing districts coordinated efforts to trace the stolen vehicle. Police spotted the van travelling in the Warrenpoint area and received assistance from members of the public who provided information about its movements.

The van was found a short time later after it had struck a wall in Oak Grange. A man in his 30s was detained by police following a short foot chase.

He was arrested on suspicion of multiple offences, including aggravated vehicle taking causing damage, dangerous driving, assault on police, resisting police, burglary with intent to steal, and driving with excess alcohol in breath.

Police enquiries are ongoing, and officers are appealing for anyone with information or footage, including from dashcams, to contact them quoting reference number 336 of 16/06/26.
