Belfast City Council’s Licensing Committee has approved seven applications for late-night and outdoor entertainment across the city centre during Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann this August.

The world’s largest celebration of Irish music, song and dance takes place in Northern Ireland’s capital from Sunday 2 August to Sunday 9 August. Organisers anticipate at least 700,000 visitors, and Tourism NI estimates the event will inject £60m into the local economy.

At a meeting on Wednesday 17 June, councillors granted licences for venues including vacant warehouse spaces, city centre car parks and temporary campsites.

A 14-day occasional licence allows entertainment until 1am on ten nights from 31 July at an outdoor area behind Lindsay House on Callender Street. A warehouse at 11-17 Donegall Street receives a seven-day annual licence for outdoor music from noon to 11pm Monday to Saturday and 12.30pm to 10.30pm on Sundays.

A marquee on the North Street car park can host music until 11pm Sunday to Wednesday and until 1am Thursday to Saturday during the Fleadh. The Oh Yeah Music Centre on Gordon Street secures outdoor entertainment on four evenings from 6 to 9 August, up to 11pm.

At the Titanic Quarter, a temporary caravan and motorhome site will provide indoor music from 11.30am past 11pm daily. Similar indoor entertainment until midnight was approved for marquees at campsites in Ormeau Park and Falls Park.

The committee also authorised later hours for Féile an Phobail events within Falls Park, permitting entertainment past 1am on up to eight nights between 24 July and 9 August.

Belfast is hosting the Fleadh for the first time and will do so again next year.
