Police seize scrambler bike and caution underage rider in Enniskillen
A motorcycle was seized and a young male cautioned after police observed two scrambler-style bikes being ridden on a footpath in Enniskillen.
The incident took place on the evening of Tuesday 16 June, when officers saw the two petrol-powered motorcycles travelling along the footpath between Cornagrade Road and the Hillview Park area.
Police said neither the rider nor the passenger on the smaller of the two bikes was wearing a helmet.
The vehicle was seized and the rider was cautioned for driving without insurance, driving while disqualified due to age as he did not hold a licence, and failing to wear a helmet. Officers also spoke with the young person’s next of kin.
The action follows an increase in reports from local residents about motorcycles being ridden by young people in a manner causing nuisance and concern. A police spokesperson said such behaviour puts riders and the public at risk of serious injury, especially when motorcycles are used on footpaths without proper safety equipment.
Police have pledged to continue proactive patrols and enforcement in response to community concerns, and warned that anyone found engaging in such behaviour will be dealt with accordingly.
Members of the public are asked to report incidents of anti-social behaviour as they occur by calling 101, or 999 in an emergency. Information from residents helps officers target patrols effectively and take positive action.
