Police from the Ballyarnett Neighbourhood Policing Team in Derry/Londonderry conducted a road safety operation on Tuesday. They seized vehicles and scrambler bikes in the Strand Road, Glenabbey and Whitehouse areas.

The seizures addressed offences such as no insurance. Two scrambler bikes were taken for causing alarm, distress or annoyance.

Reports have been submitted to the Public Prosecution Service.

Sergeant McCollum of Ballyarnett NPT noted community concerns about anti-social driving, particularly scramblers. He stated that officers are acting to address these issues.

He explained that e-scooters, scramblers, go-peds, buzz boards, quads and mini-motos are restricted to off-road use. They do not meet construction and use legislation or vehicle standards.

Road use requires a driving licence from age 16 at minimum, category AM. Recent reports indicate young children riding e-scooters.

Sergeant McCollum warned that reckless driving of these devices in public spaces risks injury to riders and others.
