A woman from Newtownbutler has celebrated her 100th birthday with a community event that included a performance by country music singer Philomena Begley.

Nan McAdam was born into a world of horse and cart and went on to live through economic hardship, emigration, conflict, peace, a technological revolution and social transformation across a century of life in Northern Ireland.

The celebration took place on Monday evening and was attended by neighbours and well-wishers, with journalist Garbhán Moriarty documenting the occasion.

Philomena Begley sang the song "Blanket on the Ground" during the event.

In conversation with the reporter, Ms McAdam revealed that her newspaper of choice is usually the Fermanagh Herald.
