Northern Ireland switches to new method for measuring renewable electricity consumption
The Department for the Economy has released its latest electricity consumption and renewable generation report, marking a shift to a new measurement methodology. The report, covering the year ending March 2026, is the first to employ a Gross Final Electricity Consumption approach following data development and improvement work.
The document details the contribution of electricity generated from renewable sources and supports monitoring of Northern Ireland’s statutory climate targets. Under the Climate Change Act (Northern Ireland) 2022, at least 80% of electricity consumption must come from renewable sources by 2030, a goal also set out in the Executive’s Energy Strategy, Path to Net Zero Energy.
The full report is available on the Department for the Economy’s website.
