McCaffrey scores five as Kinawley defeat Belcoo
Gemma McCaffrey scored five goals as Kinawley defeated Belcoo 6-08 to 0-13 in a ladies' Gaelic football match.
McCaffrey's tally included a double in the closing minutes and she also contributed six points. The contest was competitive for large stretches despite the final margin.
Kinawley established an early lead with quick goals from Roisin O'Reilly and McCaffrey after Maura Malanaphy had opened the scoring with a point. Belcoo replied through Ella McGovern and Megan Maguire.
McCaffrey completed her hat-trick in the 29th minute from a Chloe McManus delivery. By half-time Kinawley led 3-05 to 0-06, with Ciara Parker landing two late points for Belcoo.
Belcoo began the second half strongly as Shauna Melanaphy, Julijana McGourty and Maguire added points, but McCaffrey's fourth goal in the 40th minute stalled the comeback.
After a scoring lull, Kinawley finished strongly. McCaffrey netted her fifth in the 58th minute, then converted a penalty after Lisa Maguire was fouled. Belcoo's Scarlett O'Connor managed a late point.
