Sinn Féin set to take top roles in three Tyrone councils
Sinn Féin is expected to take the top leadership positions in all three local councils covering Tyrone tonight.
At Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, the party will appoint the chair and vice-chair, both from Fermanagh district electoral areas, along with all statutory committee chairs. This marks the first time Sinn Féin has taken full control of the authority since it was established in 2015.
Mid Ulster District Council will also confirm its new leadership team, with Sinn Féin taking the chair and the DUP taking the deputy chair for the 2026/27 term.
At Derry City and Strabane District Council, Sinn Féin councillor Grace Uí Niallais is due to become mayor. Catherine McDaid of the SDLP will serve as deputy mayor. Both represent district electoral areas within Derry City.
The appointments will be made at the annual general meetings of each council.
