A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and possession of an offensive weapon after a stabbing at a motorcycle event in Carrickfergus.

Police responded to a report of an attack at Rodgers Quay around 7:30pm on 27 May. The victim suffered a stab wound to the chest and injuries to the head.

The suspect left the scene on a motorbike. Officers searched the Newtownabbey area on 30 May and arrested a man in connection with the incident.

The man remains in custody and will be interviewed by detectives. Police enquiries are ongoing.

The event near Carrickfergus Castle is described by police as a regular family gathering that has previously passed without incident.
