A man was taken to hospital after being stabbed in the chest during a motorcycle event in Carrickfergus on Wednesday evening.

The incident took place shortly after 19:30 BST in the Rodgers Quay area near Carrickfergus Castle. The victim also sustained head injuries.

Police said a male suspect fled the scene on the back of a motorbike. He is described as approximately six feet tall, of medium build and aged in his 40s.

The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service sent one emergency ambulance to the scene. The victim's injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Detective Inspector Lenaghan said the event, which takes place regularly, generally passes off peacefully. Officers have appealed for anyone with information to contact police on 101, quoting reference 1557 of 27/05/26.

Alliance MLA Stewart Dickson expressed shock at the incident and urged anyone with information to contact the PSNI.

The organiser of the Storming the Castle event posted on social media that the incident did not reflect the values of the community meet and wished the injured party a full recovery.
