PSNI Supports LGBTQ+ Domestic Abuse Awareness Day
The Police Service of Northern Ireland is supporting LGBTQ+ Domestic Abuse Awareness Day.
The service said domestic abuse can affect anyone regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.
Detective Superintendent Kerry Brennan said domestic abuse is never acceptable and everyone has the right to feel safe in their relationships.
Brennan said the service held community listening events with minority groups across Northern Ireland to learn from their experiences.
Over the past year, same-sex cases accounted for an average of 10% of domestic abuse reports made to the PSNI.
The service said LGBTQ+ individuals may face extra barriers to reporting, such as fear of discrimination or being outed.
Anyone affected can contact police on 101, call 999 in an emergency, or reach the 24-hour Domestic and Sexual Abuse Helpline on 0808 802 1414.
