Causeway Coast and Glens Council will debate a motion to grant the Freedom of the Borough to Coleraine Football Club at its next full meeting on June 2.

UUP Councillor John Wisener proposed the motion, which is seconded by Councillor Richard Holmes and Alderman Sandra Hunter.

The motion states that the award would recognise the club's contribution to the borough, its sporting achievements, and its community role, ahead of the club's 100th anniversary in 2027.

Coleraine Football Club was founded in 1927. The motion notes the club's participation at regional, national and European levels.

It also states that the club has supported youth engagement, schools, charities and community initiatives within the borough.

The motion describes the centenary year as a milestone for both the club and the borough.
