Northern Ireland registered 384 deaths in the week ending 13 March 2026, down nine from 393 the prior week.

The NI Statistics and Research Agency released the data at 9.30am on 20 March 2026. Expected deaths for week 11 stood at 332 based on mortality rates and trends. This left 52 excess deaths.

Male deaths totalled 187 against an expected 168, for 19 excess. Female deaths reached 197 against 163 expected, for 34 excess.

By 13 March 2026, 4,342 deaths occurred that year. Males accounted for 50.5% and females 49.5%. People aged 75 and over made up 68.5% of deaths.

Of year-to-date deaths, 45.6% took place in hospitals, 18.3% in care homes, and 36.1% at homes, hospices, or other sites.

Deaths mentioning flu or pneumonia on certificates numbered 79 in week 11, raising the 2026 total to 874.

Provisional deaths occurring that week, registered by 18 March, totalled 282.
