A 31-year-old man has been remanded in custody after appearing in court charged with attempted murder in Coleraine.

Glen McCloskey, with an address listed as no fixed abode in Coleraine, appeared at Ballymena Magistrates Court on Thursday via video link from a police station.

He is charged following a report of a stabbing incident in the Railway Road area of the town on October 6.

At approximately 1.20pm police received a report that a man, aged in his 30s, had sustained injuries following an altercation on Railway Road.

The man was taken to hospital for treatment to injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening at this time.

McCloskey is also charged with making a threat to kill a man and possession of offensive weapons - a screwdriver and a pair of scissors - in a public place.

A police officer said that she believed she could connect the defendant to the charges. A defence solicitor said that there was no application for bail.

He said that a forensics report has yet to be received and he hoped a timeline could be prepared by police. No further details were given to the court.

The case has been adjourned to Coleraine Magistrates Court on Monday, November 2.
