Bangor Resident Marks 100th Birthday
Sarah Elizabeth Fleming, a resident of Tughan Court in Bangor, marked her 100th birthday on Sunday.
Born in Londonderry in 1926, Fleming worked at laundrettes, Gallaher’s tobacco factory and in the Civil Service in Belfast. She married Horace Fleming and both served actively at Westbourne Presbyterian Church in Belfast. After moving to Bangor in the 1990s and following her husband’s death, she took up driving in her late 70s to attend the church and assist at its lunch clubs.
Fleming’s nephew Peter Lavery described her as cheerful with a constant smile and quick with a joke. He noted that she credits her faith for her long life.
She received congratulations from Irish President Catherine Connolly and a card from King Charles and Queen Camilla.
