TUI Reassures Northern Ireland Holidaymakers on Jet Fuel Supply Concerns
TUI has informed passengers with flights booked after May 1 that no immediate disruptions are expected due to potential jet fuel shortages. The airline responded to a customer query on social media about holiday impacts from reported supply issues.
The response came on 16 April. TUI stated it is monitoring the situation in the Middle East and its effects on global aviation fuel. Current assessments show no anticipated changes to flight schedules or holiday programmes from shortages.
Concerns stem from disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz linked to conflict involving the US, Israel, and Iran. Fatih Birol, head of the International Energy Agency, warned on Thursday that Europe has about six weeks of jet fuel left if supplies stay blocked.
Ryanair chief executive Michael O'Leary indicated possible supply risks starting in May if the conflict continues. He estimated a 10 to 25 percent chance of disruptions in Europe during May and June.
O'Leary noted fuel suppliers watch market conditions closely. He said risks would drop if the Strait of Hormuz reopens by the end of April.
Other airlines including easyJet Holidays have fielded similar customer questions about summer flights. easyJet responded to a query on 10 April about potential impacts from late May, stating it is monitoring closely and would contact affected customers.
