Tesco Reports Sales Growth in Northern Ireland and Republic
Tesco's sales in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland increased 4.6 per cent on a like-for-like basis to £3.2 billion, equivalent to €3.7 billion, for the financial year to the end of February.
The company reported a market share of 24.2 per cent in the Republic, up 0.3 percentage points from the prior year. This marks the fourth straight year of gains. Tesco opened nine new stores there last year.
Geoff Byrne, Tesco Ireland and Northern Ireland chief executive, described the results as strong in a competitive market. He noted expectations of continued competition amid global events pressuring household budgets.
Food sales in the Republic rose 5.1 per cent. Sales of the Tesco Finest range grew 11.8 per cent year-on-year.
Operating profits for Tesco's UK and Ireland unit edged up 0.7 per cent to £2.7 billion on revenues of £53.1 billion. Group-wide adjusted operating profit increased 0.8 per cent to £3.1 billion, with total revenue up 4.6 per cent to £66.6 billion.
Tesco forecast adjusted operating profit for the year to February 2027 between £3 billion and £3.3 billion.
