Coalisland Mourns Sudden Death of Year 12 Student and GAA Player
Hugh John Campbell, a Year 12 pupil at St Joseph's College in Coalisland, Co Tyrone, died suddenly at home on Tuesday night. He was the son of Brian and Ciara Campbell and brother of Aileen and Brianna. His grandparents include Hughie and Eileen O’Neill from Altaglushan, Galbally, and the late John and Eleanor Campbell from Annagher.
St Joseph's College stated that Campbell had a memorable presence and connected with people around him. The school noted his kind nature and involvement in Gaelic football as a member of Na Fianna GLC in Coalisland. He recently won an Ulster medal in the U16 Pat King Championship. His mother works at the school, and a sibling is a former pupil.
Na Fianna GLC described Campbell as a dedicated player from youth ranks to the minor squad. He attended every training session and match, sold club lotto tickets, and supported senior games at Fr. Peter Campbell Park. The club postponed all activities and closed facilities as a mark of respect.
Coalisland Training Services said Campbell participated in their programmes from Year 10, completing courses in plumbing, electrical work, joinery, and bricklaying. Staff recalled his reliable attitude and positive interactions.
Funeral arrangements are pending announcement.
