A funeral service took place at SS Mary and Joseph’s Church in Brackaville on Saturday for 16-year-old Hugh John Campbell. The Coalisland resident passed away suddenly at his home on Tuesday.

Father Eugene O’Neill led the service. He called Hugh John a happy young man who brought joy to others. O’Neill noted that the teenager made a difference through his kindness and good nature in his short life.

The priest stated that every heart in the parish aches for the family’s pain. He said Hugh John’s life shone brightly despite lasting only 16 years. O’Neill added that the young man had much to live for and gave much by being himself.

Local councillor Dan Kerr offered thoughts and prayers to the Campbell family. Kerr said Coalisland faced an unimaginable tragedy in recent days.

A spokesperson for Coalisland Fianna remembered Hugh John’s dedication to the club. They described him as someone who spoke to everyone and showed constant involvement with a radiant smile.

The spokesperson recalled Hugh John’s frequent path across the training pitch with a ball in hand. They affirmed he would be missed every day but never forgotten by the club.

Hugh John was the son of Brian and Ciara and brother of Aileen and Brianna. He was buried in the cemetery next to the church after the service.
