Shane Hurson, 53, from Carrickmore in Tyrone, has died. He was son of the late Pat and Bridie Hurson. He leaves behind siblings Maureen, Kieran and Jane, Francie and Paula, Fiona and Aidan, Noeleen and Shane, Una and Kevin, Brendan and Annemarie, Martin and Mairead, Pauline, and Pat and John.

His Requiem Mass took place at St Colmcille’s Church in Carrickmore. Items placed at the altar included a book, guitar, medals, and a family photograph. Fr Peter McAnenly led the mass and described Hurson as a special child of God raised in a loving home.

Fr McAnenly noted Hurson’s love of music and his ownership of multiple instruments. He mentioned Hurson received a personal phone call from Daniel O’Donnell during Covid and sang along. Hurson belonged to the Starbreakers group.

Hurson participated in the Termonmaguirc Friendly Care Group, founded by his father. Members of Starbreakers Special Olympics Club called him a talented bocce player with a quick wit and positive attitude. His family attended sessions with him and supported his needs.

Hurson was buried in the cemetery next to St Colmcille’s Church following the mass.
