Maggie Parks, from Bangor in Co Down, has retired from her position as Director of Surgery, Elective, Maternity and Paediatrics at the South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust after 40 years in health and social care.

She started as a student nurse at the Royal Victoria Hospital in January 1986 and advanced through various positions in Northern Ireland and Australia.

Parks took up the director role in February 2023, overseeing surgery, women and acute child health, elective care, theatres, anaesthetics, critical care, pharmacy, laboratory and radiology services at Ulster Hospital, Lagan Valley Hospital and Downe Hospital.

She noted her gratitude for working with colleagues and pride in shared achievements, including the response to COVID pressures.

Parks described the director position as both a challenge and a privilege, and expressed honour in working with the team.

Dr Bob Darling, Consultant Anaesthetist at the trust, thanked Parks for her calm support and strong ties with medical staff.

Roisin Coulter, Chief Executive of the South Eastern Trust, recognised Parks' leadership and impact on services, patients and staff, and extended retirement wishes.
