Two feral cats survived after two weeks trapped inside a derelict building in Bangor, County Down. A third cat from the same group died the day after rescue.

The cats, last seen on March 7 near Queen's Parade on the seafront, went missing earlier in March. Volunteers who feed and care for the local feral cats, including arranging veterinary treatment, searched the area and posted on their 'Bangor Seafront Cats' Facebook page with a reward offered.

A man who saw the report passed the derelict building on Southwell Road on March 20 and heard mewing. He contacted the volunteers, who accessed the building the next day and rescued the three cats: females Speckle and males Pepper and Figgy.

Speckle and Pepper recovered well and rejoined the other feral cats. Figgy, a small thin cat, had gone two weeks without food and passed away the following day.

Volunteers noted no explanation for how the cats entered the building.
