A cat was found secured inside a pet carrier and cable-tied to the gates of Mid-Antrim Animal Sanctuary in Antrim on the evening of Wednesday, 25 February.

The sanctuary confirmed the cat is now safe and receiving veterinary care, though it was not microchipped, preventing tracing of an owner.

Staff noted relief that the cat was left at a location where it could be found but emphasised that abandoning animals, even at rescue facilities, is not the correct or safe method of surrender.

In a statement, the sanctuary highlighted its limited space and resources, which require prioritising cases based on welfare needs and capacity amid high volumes of surrender requests.

The charity urged pet owners struggling with their cats to contact them directly for guidance and support rather than abandoning animals.

Mid-Antrim Animal Sanctuary is located at Greystone Road, Antrim.
