Derry Dance Artists Maíre Morrison and Sarah Flavelle Stage 'Encounters' Performances
Dance artists Maíre Morrison and Sarah Flavelle from Derry will perform their duet 'Encounters' at multiple locations in Derry City this weekend.
The work stems from the Match Make programme by Maiden Voyage Dance, funded by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland. This initiative supports artists in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area to develop new partnerships across disciplines.
Morrison and Flavelle created 'Encounters' through discussions on human interactions and relationships. They used improvisation, partnerwork and choreographic methods in rehearsals. Composer Caolán Austin contributed music that set the atmosphere and rhythm.
Nicola Curry, Artistic Director of Maiden Voyage Dance, stated that the programme features artists working in film, puppetry, voice and movement. She noted anticipation for Morrison and Flavelle's piece as pop-up performances in everyday city settings. These short shows aim to make contemporary dance accessible to passers-by at no cost.
