Shea Haughey, aged 12, a Year 8 pupil at St Joseph’s Boys’ High School in Newry, has died suddenly. He was a member of Ballyholland Harps GAC and Midway United FC.

He was the son of Claire and David Haughey, brother of Rebecca and Evie Haughey, and grandson of Mary and Martin Keenan and Vera and David Haughey.

St Joseph’s Boys’ High School stated the school community is heartbroken by his passing. The school said Shea joined in September, participated in the school choir, Year 8 Wind Ensemble, soccer team, hurling team, and Gaelic squad. The school described him as a friend full of fun and life who brought warmth and kindness to pupils and staff.

Ballyholland Harps GAC expressed sadness at the death of their underage player. The club called him a credit to his family and club, noting coaches viewed him as warm, kind, and genuine. The club cancelled all activities until further notice and extended condolences to his family.

Midway United FC announced the passing of their Under-14 goalkeeper. The club said he was a valued member and much-loved teammate whose spirit and dedication to football would be remembered. The club suspended all training and matches until further notice and offered sympathies to his family.
