Twelve-Year-Old Newry Boy Passes Away Suddenly
Shea Haughey, aged 12 from the Ballyholland area of Newry, passed away at home on March 23.
He joined Year 8 at St Joseph’s High School in Newry in September. The school named him vice prefect for his class in October.
Shea played for Ballyholland Harps GAC. The club offered condolences to his parents Davy and Clare, sisters Rebecca and Evie, and extended family. They noted his coaches viewed him as warm, kind and genuine, always smiling and a credit to his family and club. Ballyholland Harps cancelled all U14 football activity until further notice.
He also served as goalkeeper for Midway United FC Newry’s under-14 team. The club called him a valued member, much-loved teammate and friend whose spirit and love for the game remain part of the club. They extended sympathies to his family, friends and teammates and requested privacy for the family.
A death notice listed Shea as son of Claire and David, brother of Rebecca and Evie, and grandson of Mary and Martin Keenan and Vera and David Haughey.
Funeral arrangements await confirmation.
