Kevin Greene from Lurgan joined Lough Neagh Coastguard at Kinnego Marina following reports of missing people. He saw a notice seeking volunteers and completed an eight-day training course.

Martin Farnon, deputy station officer, noted seven new recruits have strengthened the team. The larger crew allows more responses to call-outs since most members hold full-time jobs.

Farnon, a full-time bus driver and former member of Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service, said the extra personnel reduces pressure on the group.

The team now operates a new incident command vehicle from Kinnego Marina. This equipment enables assistance across Northern Ireland to other coastguard units when required.

Greene joined to contribute to the community. Farnon described strong team spirit and uncertainty over future call-outs.

Training sessions occur Thursday nights and Saturday mornings at Kinnego Marina. Farnon welcomes additional recruits.
