Dervla Morris from Moy Dies After Four-Year Breast Cancer Battle
Dervla Morris of Moy, County Armagh, died in hospice care after a four-year battle with breast cancer. She received her diagnosis in June 2022 at the Ulster Hospital Breast Care Unit following discovery of a lump.
Morris underwent six rounds of chemotherapy, a mastectomy with reconstruction, and one week of radiotherapy to treat a 5cm tumour in her left breast.
In 2023, one year after diagnosis, she walked 100 miles across Northern Ireland with support from friends, family, and the local community. The effort raised £3,000 for Cancer Focus NI.
Morris stressed the need for regular self-checks, noting her own prior failure to do them due to assuming it would not happen to her. She stated early diagnosis improves outcomes.
She leaves behind daughter Anna, parents Ciarán and Joan, and siblings Ciara, Niall, and Gráinne.
A Requiem Mass takes place at 11am on Thursday at St John Church in Moy, followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery. Donations are requested for Marie Curie Hospice Belfast.
