Tyrone Man Charged with Assaulting Florida Police During Trespass
Conor McAneney, a 20-year-old from Plumbridge in Tyrone, was arrested in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, at around 2.30am on March 18. Police responded to a trespassing incident at 225 South Fort Lauderdale Beach Boulevard.
Officers attempted to detain McAneney, who became uncooperative and violent. He faces charges of battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest with violence, and trespassing. The first two charges are third-degree felonies.
McAneney was taken to Broward Health Medical Center as a precaution before booking into BSO Main Jail. He was visiting Fort Lauderdale on spring break. Bail was set at $2,750 and has been posted.
McAneney studies at Florida State University and plays as a kicker on the American football team. The athletics department suspended him indefinitely from all team activities.
