Larne Choral Society Names New Conductor Ahead of 150th Anniversary
Larne Choral Society has appointed Darren Day as its new conductor and musical director. The four-part choir will mark its 150th anniversary next year.
Day brings experience as a piano teacher, accompanist, examiner and adjudicator at local music festivals. The choir's committee welcomed Day and noted his musical knowledge will aid the group's growth.
Day expressed thanks for the choir's welcome and said he feels settled in the role. Rehearsals with the new conductor have started ahead of the group's first performance under his direction in Larne this May.
The committee stated Day supports singing to improve mood and works with singers of all ages and abilities. New members can join without audition. Observers are welcome at practices.
Practices occur Tuesday nights from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Sandy Bay Pavilion, 15 Tower Road in Larne, September through May. The choir performs contemporary, sacred and classical pieces.
