DUP MLA Questions Victims Group Deputy Over Past Columns at Committee Meeting
North Belfast DUP MLA Philip Brett raised concerns about comments by Andrée Murphy, deputy director of Relatives for Justice, during a Committee for the Executive Office meeting on February 18.
Brett addressed two columns Murphy wrote for Andersonstown News last November. In one column, she described actions by the DUP and Orange Order as showing a unique psychosis linked to deep insecurity and arrogance. She called it a home-grown disorder.
Brett stated at the meeting that he has no disorder and called the article grossly inappropriate.
In the second column, Murphy praised disruptors, protesters, and those who refuse to be bought. Brett asked which commissioners monitored by the Executive Committee she believed had been bought.
Murphy told the committee she wrote the columns in a private capacity. Brett countered that her role at Relatives for Justice made the comments relevant.
The meeting focused on a strategy for victims and survivors.
