Mid Ulster District Council Tops Northern Ireland Recycling Rates for Second Quarter
Mid Ulster District Council recorded the highest household recycling rate among Northern Ireland's 11 councils for the second quarter of 2025. The rate reached 63.2% for July to September, up 1% from the same period in 2024.
Councillor Christine McFlynn, chair of the council's Environment Committee, stated that the district's residents showed strong commitment to environmental protection through their recycling efforts. She noted that correct separation and presentation of waste by households helped reduce landfill use.
This quarterly result builds on Mid Ulster's performance for the full year 2024/25, when it also posted the top annual household recycling rate of 59.3% across all councils.
McFlynn credited residents for embedding recycling into daily habits, which supported the district's push for sustainability.
