Pupils from Londonderry Primary School in Newtownards have joined the Parkrun Primary initiative. The program links schools with local Junior Parkrun events. Children aged 4 to 14 take part in 2k and 5k runs organised by volunteers.

The school group ran at Park Way in Comber on Sunday. Events occur every Sunday morning. The initiative started in 2025 as a three-year partnership with over 500 primary schools across the UK.

P7 teacher Louise Bingham stated the program matches the school's focus on education, well-being and community. She noted it counters sedentary lifestyles by encouraging outdoor activity and social interaction.

Bingham said Junior Parkruns are established in Northern Ireland. She described Parkrun Primary as new this year, positioning her school among the first locally to adopt it.

She hopes other primary schools follow suit. Bingham also highlighted opportunities for adults to volunteer and support the children.
