A 2.5-acre shorefront development site in Rostrevor sold last Tuesday. Best Property Services announced the sale of the former Campbell’s garage location on Shore Road, overlooking Carlingford Lough. The site carried an asking price of £2 million.

The property includes planning permission for 41 apartments and a 70-bedroom nursing home. Apartments range from 850 to 1,432 square feet, with many offering views over Carlingford Lough and some including private outdoor space.

Council planning permission for the apartments and nursing home first passed in April 2017, eight years after the initial application. The full council later rescinded the approval. Permission passed again in November 2017. Councillors approved both times despite planners' recommendations to refuse.

RARE, known as Rostrevor Action Respecting the Environment, pursued a judicial review against the council's decisions and the proposed construction near Rostrevor Oak Wood. The challenge failed.

In 2021 Richland Waterfront Limited applied to demolish the site's JC Campbell car sales and garage buildings and build eight semi-detached houses, four terraced houses, and 33 apartments. The council's Planning Committee rejected the proposal in 2023.
