Fermanagh Road Safety Event Targets Young Drivers After Local Collisions
A road safety roadshow takes place Saturday at Cleenish Millennium Hall in Arney, Fermanagh. The event targets young and newly qualified drivers after serious collisions on local roads.
The Erne West Neighbourhood Team, led by Constable Heuston, and Mary Monaghan of Belnaleck GAC organised the initiative. Police noted concerns from residents about road safety.
Constable Heuston stated that local people raised issues specifically about young or newly qualified drivers, recent test passers, and learner drivers.
Emergency services will demonstrate response to a serious road traffic collision, including extraction of an injured person from a crashed vehicle. Representatives from each service will speak on their experiences with road crashes.
A founding member of Road Victim Support NI and Donegal, who lost her 17-year-old son in a road traffic collision, will share her story.
Fermanagh and Omagh Policing and Community Safety Partnership provides virtual reality headsets to show consequences of dangerous driving.
Cllr Thomas O’Reilly said the partnership views road safety as a key priority and supports the VR technology to educate young drivers.
The event is open to the public.
